About Ken Hill Health Center

Doing Our Best to Keep Hood County Healthy

Who We Are

Ken Hill Health Center is a nonprofit clinic dedicated to providing quality healthcare and social services to uninsured residents of Hood County, Texas. Founded in 2009 as Ruth’s Place Clinic, we’ve grown through the generosity of our donors and volunteers to meet the expanding health needs of our community.

Our volunteer doctors and staff offer compassionate care in areas such as primary care, diabetes management, behavioral health, and more. In partnership with local providers and through our Patient Assistance Program, we help bridge gaps in access to essential medical services.

As part of the Ruth’s Place 501(c)(3) organization, our mission is simple—to keep Hood County healthy by providing hope, healing, and dignity to every patient we serve.

Our History

2002

Ruth's Place was created as a United Way initiative to address access to healthcare. Named after Ruth Tacke, wife of a special United Way donor, the first clinic was located near the hospital and supported by a grant from the March of Dimes.

2009

Ruth's Place became a standalone nonprofit and opened a clinic in Oak Trail Shores using a single-wide trailer. Dr. Ric, Dr. Wendy, and Dr. Romeo Bachand volunteered to see pediatric and adult patients.

2010

John and Mary Jo Hill purchased a model home to house the Clinic on Crawford Ave. The trailer continued to serve the OTS community as an outreach center to provide ESL classes, a food pantry, car clinic and the Healthy Kids summer lunch program.

2013

Dr. Elizabeth and Dr. Jason Berry oversaw the conversion of the garage area to a two-chair dental clinic for additional services.

2014

Ruth's Place was selected out of 200 nonprofit across Texas to receive a 3,200 sq ft. building donated by Muller Metal Buildings. Muller employees spent 3 days constructing the building behind the clinic.

2015

Through the generosity of the board and local donors, funds were raised to complete the interior construction creating six exam rooms for the clinic. Dr. Romeo Bachand saw the first patient on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

2023

Ruth's Place was blessed to receive a multi-year grant from the Kenneth Hill Foundation. As the founder and chairman of many paradigm-shifting companies, Kenneth Hill gained respect and helped change patient care for future generations.

2024

To honor the late Kenneth Hill and in return of the financial support from the Kenneth Hill Foundation, Ruth's Place clinic becomes Ken Hill Health Center on May 3, 2024.

2025

Renovations have been the theme of 2025! We have added a conference room, added more office space, and are excited to renovate our lobby area!

HOW WE DO IT

Patience Assistance Program

The Ken Hill Health Center operates with a combination of staff and volunteers. The majority of our providers work in the clinic and see patients as their schedule allows. We employ two part-time mid-level providers to ensure consistency.

Community partners are necessary to eliminate gaps in access to healthcare in specialty, ancillary, hospital, supportive, and social services. We are constantly seeking out additional resources and partnerships that provide services our patients need.

Do you believe everyone, despite their socio-economic status, deserves access to quality medical care? Join us as a volunteer or donate today!

Since 2019, the Clinic has developed several healthcare education affiliations augment medical coverage for patients during the week and provide valuable clinical experience for future healthcare providers. In addition, strong partnerships with other organizations allow Ruth’s Place to provide FREE screenings.

Operational funds for both locations are 100% donated by local foundations, churches, businesses, and individuals. We rely on YOU, our community and donors, to provide these much needed services to our Hood County residents.
